COVID-ID lab is an RT-PCR test intended for the qualitative detection of nucleic acids of SARS-CoV-2 in nasopharyngeal swabs eluted in viral transport medium of persons suspected of COVID-19 disease. 

The product is intended to be used by trained personnel in a laboratory as well as in an environment close to the patient.

COVID-ID lab as a Game Changer

The COVID-19 pandemic poses a challenge to the whole world not only because of the possible severe progression of the disease with a strong burden for health care systems and too many deaths worldwide but also with regard to the containment of the pandemic. Since samples have to be sent to spezialized laboratories to obtain PCR results whether SARS-CoV-2 is present or not containment is anticipated by a delay of up to several days making it difficult for authorities to successfully counteract local outbreaks.

The goal of 3a was to develop a Point of Care (POC) test system to detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA in less than 30 minutes with only minimal equipment needed to facilitate the mobile use of the test system. COVID-ID lab meets all the requirements and the team is proud to have fullfilled the task in such a short period of time.
